Memory 13: Token of Appreciation?

Appreciation, Acknowledgment, praise, This three word means a lot to me if not for you!! Sadly, Most people take it for granted. A simple word of 'Thank You' would mean a lot then saying nothing. Imagine someone asking you to do something for him/her, and when its done. No sign of Appreciation, Not even a 'thank you'?

Too some people, they might have gotten used to this not-being-acknowledge kinda thing. The thing is, its very important to appreciate or acknowledge someones work. Think about it, During when you were a baby, learning to stand up and taking your first step, learning to speak the first word. Can you imagine your parents face back then. They were always encouraging us to go on with a happy face, And once you achieve your first step. They were filled with joy and they even called the grandmother and grandfather about it, They snap a photo of you.

But After 15 years from that moment, After getting flying colors for your exam. Your parents just sit down on the sofa reading the newspaper and just look at it and just nod. And you just feel that all that I studied and all I get is a nod? You feel that your work you have done its not being acknowledged. Then things start to turn bad, as you proceed to higher levels, the module turn out harder and harder, And during the exam, you got pretty poor marks. So your parents were very cross with you, And you have that feeling that when I get good marks nobody praise or acknowledge my work. But when it comes to getting poor marks, the neighbor 3 houses away can here your dad screaming at you.

Have you notice the power of acknowledge and appreciation yet, just a simple act of acknowledgment when you get flying colors, "good job, keep up the good work" with a bright smile or a pat on the head, You think we won't appreciate or like that? Well, Maybe modern days we are too materialistic, that if you want that thing, You have to study hard for it. Yes, That is also a kind of acknowledgment, but think about it, Imagine you run out of things to ask for, and in the end. You are the one feeling disappointed.

My point here is, Acknowledgment and appreciation with praise is the best way to let others know that you acknowledge their work and they will do their best to keep it that way. So next time, If you happen to be in a project team, Don't forget to thank your team members and maybe praise abit on their good job. Or when asking people to do things for you, and when its done, Acknowledge and appreciate their work, Cause they are doing it for you, If you don't like it, Do it yourself!! So acknowledge people's work and they will remember that simple act.
